The Neneh Strategy
The Neneh Strategy describes a representative method of the Sierra Leonean local NGO, Amazonian Initiative Movement (AIM), for accomplishing sustainable societal change. The strategy has been instrumental in the fight against Female Genital Mutilation (FGM) in the communities where AIM is active. By seeking to preserve cultural identity while eliminating the harmful practice, meaningful alternatives for women and girls are promoted with entire communities on-board.
In this way, the Neneh Strategy addresses the barriers to women's advancement that limit development across Sub-Saharan Africa. The success of this approach demonstrates the crucial need to understand local values, customs, and norms when developing sustainable solutions for and beyond fighting FGM and furthering women’s empowerment. The Neneh Strategy is a core part of N’NINKIE, with its emphasis on culturally appropriate methods reflected in each of our projects.
